Mary Eicher – President

Mary Eichler has provided patient safety and risk management services in Colorado for over the past 15 years. Mary graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and attained her Master of Jurisprudence in Health Law through Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

Mary joined the Patient Safety and Risk Management Department at COPIC Insurance Company in 2000. During her tenure, she has provided consultative services to physician office practices throughout the state, administered COPIC’s 3Rs Program, and provided patient safety and risk management services and support to hospitals in Colorado. Currently, as the Colorado Hospital Patient Safety Risk Manager/3Rs Program Administrator, Mary provides educational seminars, consultative risk management support and risk assessments for hospitals, and maintains involvement in the 3Rs Program. Mary has been instrumental in the evolution and success of the 3Rs Program, one of the first established Communication and Resolution Programs (CRPs).

Mary has been a member of ASHRM since 2008 and CHARM since 2010. Her other accomplishments include involvement in research studies measuring the impact of unanticipated medical outcomes and the effectiveness of disclosure and communication. Mary’s publications include articles in the International Journal for Quality n Health Care and Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Ashley McCreadie – Interim Co-Secretary

As an Assistant Vice President focused on client development at Woodruff-Sawyer & Co., Ashley advises a diverse portfolio of clients from established, high-growth companies to publicly-traded firms with complex risk profiles.  Ashley’s goal is to help her clients reduce their Total Cost of Risk (TCOR) in order to help them increase their bottom line profits.  Ashley was selected to represent Woodruff-Sawyer at the inaugural Assurex Professional Development Programme at Lloyd’s of London.

Previous to joining Woodruff-Sawyer & Co., Ashley was in a similar client development role for several years at Marsh & McLennan.  Ashley graduated cum laude from The Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Risk Management and Insurance. Additionally, she was the first student globally to obtain both the University Associate Certified Risk Manager (UACRM) Designation and the University Associate Certified Insurance Counselor (UACIC) Designation via The National Alliance.  She holds her CIC designation and CRM designation.

Ashley is actively involved in the industry and community through serving on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Healthcare Associated Risk Managers (CHARM) as well as the Denver Insurance Collective Experience (DICE).  She was honored as one of Colorado’s Finest Young Professionals via the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 2014 and continues to be actively involved in the foundation.

Jennifer Hurley— Interim Co-Secretary

Over the last decade, Jen has lead healthcare continuing education programs and managed quality improvement initiatives. She has a fondness for using technology to create efficiencies and has worked in a virtual office setting for more than 12 years. Based on her experience as a telecommuter, Jen has developed methods and systems to virtually manage teams and projects without compromising quality. She grew up working for her father in aviation and learned fundamental principles of safety and continuous improvement that she continues to reference in her work in healthcare. Jen is an advocate for health information security and consults on healthcare cyber risk management programs. She is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), the Colorado Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (CHIMSS), the Colorado Alliance for Continuing Medical Education (CACME), and the Colorado chapter of ASHRM, CHARM. She serves as Chair of the ASHRM webinars task force and is the President-Elect of CHARM.

Stacy Hartzler President-Elect

Stacy Hartzler is an accomplished Registered Nurse with over years of experience in risk management, patient safety, and nursing leadership roles.   Her specialty comes from a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Speech Pathology and Hearing Sciences with a focus on caring for stroke and head inured patients. Currently, Stacy is a member of the Patient Safety and Risk Management team in Centura Healthcare system at Penrose St. Francis Medical Center (ranked One of America’s 50 Best Hospitals™ for 10 years in a row (2008 – 2017) by Healthgrades®). Penrose-St. Francis Health Services is a full-service, 522-bed acute care facility in Colorado Springs is Colorado’s only Magnet Recognized hospital. Prior to joining Centura Healthcare, Stacy proudly served in the public school district in Ohio where she promoted wellness and coordinated education programs for elementary to high school aged children.  Before relocating to Ohio, Stacy worked as the Risk Management Coordinator for Longmont United Hospital, a premier member of Planetree, a leading healthcare organization that promotes innovative ways to improve standards and technologies. Stacy championed the Denver Health Best Babies, Nurse Family Partnership Program by speaking before the Colorado Congress to secure funding from federal tobacco dollars for the continuation of the program in 2002-2004.  Stacy acted as a program ambassador for the Nurse Family Partnership Program, appearing on ABC nightly news and multiple local news outlets and newspapers from 2001-2004 in support the program.  Stacy worked as a nursing leader, including Director of Neurology and Orthopedics at Stroke Center of Excellence in Arizona. In addition to Stacy’s dedication and passionate devotion to the nursing profession, she remains focused on promoting a culture of safety to protect the all patients, visitors and staff.

Heather Westermeyer – Treasurer

Ms. Westermeyer is a Manager of Risk Management Operations at Centura Health.  She is responsible for the administration of the Commercial Insurance Program, Self-Funded Trust for HPL and GL and Self-Insured Workers’ Compensation Program for Porter Care Adventist Health System. Heather has her Master’s Degree in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix as well as her BS in Health Care Management from Metro State University and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Wisconsin.
